Echo Students Learning to Fish for Life...

Today, Royce and I took an impromptu trip to the Ogden River. He really wanted to catch dinner instead of buy it from the butcher at the local grocery store! We geared up and headed down to the Ogden River Parkway. The Ogden River is beautiful this time of year!

Royce found some sweet spots to cast his line and see what he could get. Although we ended up with (store bought) salmon for dinner, Royce and I got some fresh air and some exercise on the Parkway as we walked down stream. We’re setting up a time with a local fisherman and nature photographer to learn some insider tips on where the trout are running this time of year.

There were other community members taking advantage of the beautiful day, and it was nice to get out. As it turns to fall, the Wasatch Front is starting to turn some beautiful colors.

Along this part of the parkway, the city has installed fitness stations. This one is tailored for ab exercises and repurposes old skis for benches as a creative way to be reduce, reuse, recycle. I like that feature a lot!

In the background, you can see the beautiful Wasatch Front as it turns from greens to reds and golds.

When discussing fitness interests the convo changed to biking and killing two birds with one stone as a means for transportation as well as exercise. The bike path through Ogden ensures a traffic free way to get across town.

Royce described his bike as being out of commission due to a faulty tire. Of course, we could drop it off at the local bike shop, but decided to try the local Bike Collective which is a volunteer organization that teaches bike owners how to maintain their own bike and also provides a shop with tools and instruction. This creates more independent freedom and also is a much more economical decision to learn to fish rather than buy it and pay for someone else to provide. Besides saving money, anyone who has seen Napolean Dynamite knows how important it is to have skills!
